Yes, Ceiling Heating does work! The first response to ceiling heating that most people have is, "Yes, but doesn't heat rise?" And the answer to that is, No, hot air rises but heat will move in whatever direction it is pointed. Your heating will act just like the Sun. When your heating is first turned on the ceiling will start to warm up. You will start to feel warm because there are fewer cold surfaces in the room. The longer the heating is on, the warmer the other surfaces in the room will become - the floor temperature will eventually become warmer than the air temperature. The air temperature will be comfortable because it will be warmed by the warm surfaces such as the ceiling, walls and floor. People in the room will feel warm from all the surfaces as well as the heat being radiated from the ceiling.
Ceiling Heating is the ideal choice for new or existing homes where easy access to the ceiling space is available, especially where floor coverings such as carpet, cork, vinyl and polished timber floors or parquet are used.
Ceiling Heating is well suited for homes built on timber floors, or where the ground floor is a slab and the upper floors are timber.

Minimum heat losses upwards are ensured by the use of adequate insulation batts, e.g. for Sydney a minimum if 'R2.5 to R3' is recommended on top floors while 'R1 to R1.5' is best for intermediate floors. Check your insulation requirements with your local authority.
All Gyprock/Plaster will 'move' when heated - we cannot guarantee that the ceilings will not crack. However, cracking can be reduced if the joints are able to move.
NB Plasterboard MUST be fitted to Australian Standard AS/NZS 2589.1 (1997) & AS/NZS 2589.2 (1997) - 'incorporating the back blocking technique and paper taped joints'. Control joints must be used where required. The use of either a Devireg™ 132 or Devireg™ 522 Probe/Air thermostat is essential - this enables the ceiling temperature to be preset to maximum of 45°C - as per manufacturers' recommendations. |
